The Old Oak Dojo is an experiment in self-organization. Most of our events are offered and hosted by friends in our community. If you’d like to inquire about having your event at the Dojo, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Open Mic with Nejem Raheem
May 4 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm
The Old Oak Dojo has an open mic! On the first Thursday of every month, from 8-10pm, we’ll gather in the Dojo (or around the fire pit if the weather’s good) and folks will have about 10 minutes each to play two songs or perform spoken word.
Our Open Mic is for everyone. All ages and everyone are welcome, but please respect the time limits and our neighbors. We’ll start at 8 and end at 10.
We want to encourage ALL kinds of music and performance. Qawwali, country blues, cumbia, or singer-songwriter stuff, it’s all welcome. Rappers welcome but we won’t necessarily have the PA you want for playback of beats.
Please show up at 8 pm and put your name on the signup sheet by 8:30. We’ll sign up by slots. If you show up and don’t know whether or not you want to play that night, just let Nejem know, and he’ll put you in the “undetermined” slot for later. But let him know. Email Nejem at email@example.com.
Don’t think you have to be great or can’t come because you ARE great.
