I’m inviting you to this experiment to explore how play and cultivating playful spirit, disrupts rigid patterns, opens us up, invites more possibilities not previously seen, allows us to flow with life, impacts our relationships at home, work, in the world, and our relationship with ourselves.

What is Play?

For me play is unencumbered thought, movement, exploration of one’s being, place, surroundings, past or future. Play can be specific activities AND it can be an essence, an approach, a spirit…they way we do, the HOW we are.

Why Play?

Play frees me from the confines of karmically conditioned patterns, the rigid application of rules, planning, and structure. In my experience play:

  • Opens my body to a breath of sensations
  • Inspires flexibility in movement, thought, and emotion
  • Increases curiosity and imagination
  • Invites broader possibilities

So often as children we are told to “go play” to get out of the way of adults; and “quiet down, not here.” We learn that play is only allowed at certain (often undefined) times and places and is only for certain people. Overtime, we come to believe it’s not okay to play.

Well I’m bringing play back for adults. I want to debunk this myth that it’s not ok AND to demonstrate that there is great wisdom and great possibility inherent in play. Yes, even for adults.

The experiment…

Aside from simply being fun, I believe play is a pathway from which we can open ourselves to being with our most painful and biggest challenges, whether it be relationships, grappling with the state of humanity, or feeling debilitated from any or all of it.

My theory is that a playful spirit allows us to view such challenges and complexities from a place of curiosity and expanse rather than from the little diorama box of our conditioned mind and previously set rules. By creating space to play, we build our playful spirit muscle if you will so it becomes more available as a choice in our daily lives.

I hope you’ll join this experiment with me. Please RSVP accurately and feel free to invite others.
